Arrow Holder for Target Shooting: If you have a "range" set up in your
backyard or field, stop by the hardware store for about 3 feet of 3"dia PVC pipe, two caps, and two
4" x 1/8 bolts with nuts. Cut the pipe into two pieces. Drill the caps - one hole in the center
(and one slightly off center as a drain), attach the bolt (head inside), fit the caps on the pipes.
Unless the ground is really, really hard, you can stick these into the ground to give you both yardage
markers and a holder for your arrows while shooting.
Home-brew Portable Fletching Tool
It was after hours for the local archery shop and I needed to fix a couple of vanes on some arrows....
I happened to have a piece of clear plastic about six inches long, three inches wide and about an 1/8 inch
thick. The thickness of a bandsaw blade was just about right for the vanes. (If your hand is steady,
you can use a coping saw or hacksaw.) Make a five inch cut (long enough for your vanes), clean up the
edges, and you can slip a vane into the slot. The slot should hold the vane lightly. Apply your glue,
press the vane onto the arrow, and hold it for a minute to let the cement set a bit. With the clear plastic
you can see if you got it straight. Spread the ends of the plastic -- very slightly -- and the plastic
slips off without moving the vane.
